NSCDC Commandant General Directs Nationwide Security Alert for Democracy Day

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, has mandated a comprehensive enhancement of security measures across the country. This directive comes amidst intelligence indicating potential protests scheduled for Democracy Day.

In a briefing with senior management and state commandants, Dr. Audi underscored the NSCDC’s primary responsibility for protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as ensuring the safety of lives and property. He noted that reliable intelligence suggests plans for peaceful demonstrations in various states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Delta, and Rivers, among others.

Commandants were instructed to deploy officers and personnel to maintain high alert levels at identified flashpoints, proposed protest sites, public gathering spots, recreational areas, and rally points. The objective is to provide sufficient protection for government facilities and prevent any breakdown of law and order or acts of vandalism often perpetrated by individuals with criminal intent who may attempt to hijack peaceful protests.

To ensure effective security coverage, the NSCDC is collaborating closely with other security agencies to uphold peace and protect citizens’ lives and property.

Dr. Audi also appealed to Nigerian youth, urging them not to allow themselves to be manipulated by desperate or criminal elements, warning that anyone apprehended for unlawful activities would face the full force of the law.
