Radioactive water ‘leaked into loch’ from nuclear base

Files from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, known as SEPA, have revealed details concerning a significant incident at the Coulport nuclear base. The documents indicate that radioactive water escaped from the facility and entered a nearby loch. Investigations documented in these files trace the origin of the leakage back to a pipe rupture that occurred in 2010. According to SEPA’s findings, the underlying cause of this contamination was attributed to inadequate maintenance practices at the site, highlighting “shortfalls in maintenance” as the critical factor leading to the environmental release.
