‘I could hardly walk’ – the issue that affects one in five mums

Pelvic girdle pain, a condition that can severely impact mobility and quality of life, affects a significant number of pregnant women and new mothers, with estimates suggesting as many as one in five experiencing its effects. The discomfort and pain associated with PGP can range from mild to debilitating, sometimes making fundamental movements like walking incredibly challenging.

Two mothers who have personally navigated the intense pain and limitations of pelvic girdle pain are now speaking out to highlight the critical importance of awareness. They contend that a greater understanding of the condition’s prevalence and symptoms is essential to empower individuals to seek timely intervention. Early recognition of PGP can pave the way for effective treatment, which often includes physiotherapy and other supportive therapies designed to manage symptoms and improve functional capacity. By fostering an environment where PGP is understood and discussed, more women can access the care they need, preventing prolonged suffering and enabling a better recovery journey.
