A petroleum tanker transporting 60,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control and somersaulted on Wednesday in Oyo State. The incident occurred at Irepo Junction along the Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway. The truck, a HOWO trailer tanker with registration number KMC65ZC, was loaded with fuel when it veered off the road and overturned. Emergency services confirmed that no casualties resulted from the accident, although the fuel being transported spilled from the vehicle. Personnel from the Oyo State Fire Service promptly arrived at the location following a distress call received around 3:51 pm on Wednesday. According to Hon. Maroof Akinwande, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, firefighters deployed chemical foam to cover the spilled petrol to mitigate the risk of fire ignition. He attributed the cause of the accident to a lack of complete concentration by the truck driver. The Federal Fire Service and officers from the Nigerian Police Ojongbodu Division in Oyo were also present at the scene to provide support and security.
