A colony of penguins currently housed in a basement at the Sea Life London Aquarium will soon be relocated to an improved enclosure featuring natural daylight. This move is part of a broader strategy by the aquarium’s owner, Merlin Entertainments, to cease the breeding of gentoo penguins at its London and Birmingham locations. The decision to move the penguins reflects a commitment to enhancing their living conditions and welfare. The new habitat is designed to provide a more enriching environment for the birds, mimicking their natural habitat with access to daylight, which is crucial for their health and behavior. This relocation signifies a shift in the aquarium’s approach to penguin conservation and management, prioritizing the well-being of the existing population.
