Rachel Reeves, the Shadow Chancellor, has proposed a series of tax cuts designed to make leisure activities more affordable for families. These proposed measures, dubbed the “Fun” tax cuts, aim to reduce the cost of entertainment and dining out, particularly for those with young children.
The proposals include reductions in Value Added Tax (VAT) for amusement parks and theatre tickets, which would directly translate to lower prices for consumers. Additionally, a cut in VAT on children’s meals at restaurants is also part of the plan, intended to ease the financial burden on families when dining out. Reeves argued that these targeted tax reductions would not only boost consumer spending in the leisure sector but also provide much-needed relief to household budgets during challenging economic times. The initiative is presented as a way to support families and encourage engagement with cultural and recreational activities.
