Detective Linda Williams has made a powerful statement regarding the Metropolitan Police’s handling of her case, describing the experience of dealing with the force’s internal processes as “like being raped again.” Her harrowing testimony underscores the severe emotional impact and perceived institutional failures faced by victims within law enforcement when their attackers are colleagues.
Williams was subjected to an attack by David Carrick, a former Metropolitan Police officer. Carrick was convicted and subsequently jailed in 2023 for a series of grave sexual offences. His crimes involved a total of twelve women, highlighting a disturbing pattern of abuse that ultimately led to his imprisonment. Williams’s brave account brings renewed focus to the critical need for robust, compassionate, and transparent mechanisms within police forces to support victims and address internal misconduct effectively, ensuring that the pursuit of justice does not inadvertently cause further trauma.
